(Do not adjust your computer, lol, the card is blurry. I'm very sorry about that. I mailed it before I verified the quality of the picture I took. Tomorrow I'll show you a different version and it's not blurry.)
My brother-in-law's father passed away last week and I'm just now getting to making the card. This is the ultra simple, toned-down version of one of the cards on the cover of the current Idea Book & Catalog. I Really like that card but needed to adapt it to be a little less feminine. The card on the catalog uses the Decorative Label punch to back up a single scallop circle and the sentiment layer that is punched using the Large Oval punch. Since I don't have the Decorative Label punch (yet...should be coming in the week after next, lol) and it seemed a little too plain with just a single scallop circle, I decided to punch two scallop circles from the Chocolate Chip cardstock and layer them together to form a layer that went around the whole large oval.
My favorite part of the card is the textured layer, which I created using the Square Lattice textured embossing folder for the Big Shot. I found that you can distress it a little by rubbing on the back in various areas. It flattens some of the texture and gives it an aged appearance.
The sentiment is from the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set which I love for sympathy or get well cards. Tomorrow I'll show you how a little chantilly lace and antique brad take this card up a notch.
